Using your card

What can I do with my card?

How long can I keep library items?

Does the library tell me when to pick up my holds? Return my items?

You say you are fine-free. What does that mean?

Can I use another/a non-Oak Park card in Oak Park?

  • Use your valid Chicago Public Library card or another Illinois library card here. Registration may be required on your first visit.

Does my Oak Park card expire?

  • Most Oak Park library cards never expire. Cards for educators and businesses expire after one year but may be renewed.
  • Library cards with printed expiration dates (issued before March 20, 2012) can be renewed at the library with your photo ID and proof of Oak Park address. Find library locations and hours »

Updating notifications

Can I change the way I am notified?

Using the catalog

Why does the catalog look different than what I’m used to? Why do I see two different catalogs?

  • Oak Park Public Library is one of seven SWAN member libraries that have been beta testing a new and improved catalog. Testing has progressed well, and SWAN is taking the tool to a wider audience (you!) for more feedback. Get all the details »
  • Changes made to your account in either catalog will be reflected in both places. See something that doesn’t seem right? Have questions about your account? Please let us know »

What if I want to keep using the classic catalog?

  • The classic catalog (the one you’re used to seeing) isn’t going away. Both the classic and the new catalogs will be available at the same time to patrons and staff from anywhere.
  • Want to switch between catalogs? Find a link for the classic catalog on the new catalog home screen and vice versa.

How do I know which catalog I’m using?

  • Check out the screenshots below!

The new catalog looks like this:

The classic catalog looks like this:
